Acts:Reboot #4

Sermon Series by Pastor Lee Evans

Acts:Reboot #4

Act 1:9-14

9  After He had said this, He was taken up as they were watching, and a cloud took Him out of their sight. 10  While He was going, they were gazing into heaven, and suddenly two men in white clothes stood by them. 11  They said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up into heaven? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come in the same way that you have seen him going into heaven."12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, which is near Jerusalem - a Sabbath day's journey away. 13  When they arrived, they went to the room upstairs where they were staying: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. 14  They all were continually united in prayer, along with the women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.

1.  Wait Expectantly… v. 4

  Wait for God’s Promise

  The Spirit – v. 4, Acts 2

  The Son – v. 11Wait for God’s Promise

Waiting is NOT Laziness

Matt. 24:46-51/2 Thes. 3:6-15
“Blessed is that servant whom the master finds doing his job when he comes.” Matt. 24:46

2. Wait Together, v. 12-14, 15

Look at the frequent use of “they”

  • They were Diverse
  • They were Devoted to Christ!
  • They were United – 1:14; 2:46; 4:24; 5:12; 15:25; Rom. 15:6 – “one accord” – Phil. 2:2-5

3. Wait Prayerfully, v. 14

They were Dependent – on God!

  •  The Self- sufficient don’t pray
  •  The self- satisfied won’t pray
  •  The self-righteous can’t pray!

They were Persistent – “continually united in prayer” Over 30  in Acts we find believers praying together!

4. Wait with BibleOpen, v. 14

God speaks through His Word, v. 16-20

Peter quotes from Ps., 69:25; 109:8 as direction for   what was “necessary” for them to do (v. 22)

God Does what He Says, v. 16 “it was necessary that the Scriptures be fulfilled” (Luke 24:7,26; 17:2-3; 26:23)

Has God used one of these verses to speak to you?

Which verse and What is He saying?

How will you Act on what God said?
