Are You Being Transformed? Pt. 2

Sermon Series from Acts: Transformed

Are You Being Transformed? Pt. 2

Acts 13:38,39, 42-52

38  Therefore, let it be known to you, brothers and sisters, that through this man forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you. 39  Everyone who believes is justified through him from everything that you could not be justified from through the law of Moses…

42  As they were leaving, the people urged them to speak about these matters the following Sabbath.  43  After the synagogue had been dismissed, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who were speaking with them and urging them to continue in the grace of God. 44 The following Sabbath almost the whole town assembled to hear the word of the Lord. 45  But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began to contradict what Paul was saying, insulting him. 46  Paul and Barnabas boldly replied, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first. Since you reject it and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, we are turning to the Gentiles. 47  For this is what the Lord has commanded us: I have made you a light for the Gentiles to bring salvation to the end of the earth." 48  When the Gentiles heard this, they rejoiced and honored the word of the Lord, and all who had been appointed to eternal life believed. 49  The word of the Lord spread through the whole region. 50  But the Jews incited the prominent God-fearing women and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expelled them from their district. 51  But Paul and Barnabas shook the dust off their feet against them and went to Iconium. 52  And the disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.

Are You Being Transformed?

God does His work of transformation in us as we Hunger for His Word and allow His Spirit to work on, in and through us! This process of being shaped by God means we can expect adversity.   We see this today as…

2. Paul & Barnabas faced Hostility!

“Fires of iniquity may burn Bibles; Evil hearts my deny the truth; But they do NOT destroy  it or evade its Message, but  “the Word of God endures forever” (Isa. 40:8)

Joseph Parker

"The best evidence of God’s  presence is the devils growl”

C.H. Spurgeon

·From those who saw their power slipping, v. 45

  “Jealous”

·To the Message of grace they preached, v. 39,43

  “contradict”

·That was Personal  & physical , v. 45, 50

    “insulting”  - “stirred up persecution…”

See: John 16:32; Matt 5:11-12; 1 Peter 4:12-16,19

3. They Guarded their Heart!

·Bitterness is an enemy to transformation!

They didn’t take it personal (Eph. 4:31; Heb. 12:15)

They didn’t quit – (Acts 13:5:13)

·They were Bold but broken hearted! v. 46

They “…boldly replied it was necessary that the Word of God be spoken to you first. Since you reject it…”

·Realistic but Determined v. 47,52; Rom. 9:1-3;10:1-2

“it was necessary… I have made you a light to the Gentiles…

Are you Being Transformed?

  • Are you Hungry for God?
  • What do you do when you Face Hostility from Others who disagree with the Word & attack you?
  • Have you let your Heart get COLD or INDIFFERENT toward the lost?

Transformation is dependent on your Response…

What is God saying to you from His Word?

What is God’s Spirit dealing with you About?

What is the condition of your heart?

How will YOU respond to what God is saying?
