Determined Disciples: John 15:4-5

Posted 9/23/2018

Sunday Morning Message by Pastor Lee Evans

Determined Disciples

John 15:4-5
4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. NKJV

4 Remain in me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without me. CSB

Two Truths a Disciple Must Master

1.Dependence
2.Determination

1. Dependence
Salvation is impossible without dependence on God…

It is “the gift of God…” Rom. 6:23

Is “not of works…” Eph. 2:8,9

Living the Christian Life is Impossible without Dependence on God…

Jesus said “without Me you can do nothing...” John 15:5

We cannot be Ambassadors, Overcomers, Soldiers of Light… NOTHING without Him!

2.  Determination
Jesus said:  “Abide in Me” or “Remain in Me…” the word means to continue, to dwell, to stay, to settle in, to sink deeper…
Abiding is about choosing to v. 7 “abide in Jesus and His Word abiding in you…” which leads us deeper to “ask whatever you will & it shall be done unto you…”  & “bearing much fruit” (v. 8)

Hebrews 11:32-40

What Kind of Disciple are  You?

Are you a Disciple of Jesus?
Are you Dependent on Him?
Are you Determined?
