Engaging Together In the Work of Jesus! Pt. 2

Posted 7/22/2018

Sunday Morning Sermon by Pastor Lee Evans

Engaging Together In the Work of Jesus!

2 Timothy 2:1-2 (CSB)

1  You, therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2  What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

Matthew 28:19-20 (CSB)

19  Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20  teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

•Review:

Jesus has commanded us to “make disciples” (Matt. 28:19-20).   Disciples are Students; Followers, who also Teach.  Disciple making involves Intercession (Asking God to direct us to people that need Jesus;  An Invitation to join us in getting to know Him, (John 1:43,46);  An Investment in  Relationships with those that join us, 2 Tim. 2:2!

You CAN BE A Disciple Maker if you are...

1. Devoted to Jesus!

•You have been born-again. (Mark 1:15; John 1:12; 3:7)
•You have heard His Word & Believe (John 5:24).

“Go… make disciples…baptize them… teaching  them to observe everything…” Matt. 28:19-20

2. Developing as a Follower of Jesus!

Character:  Allowing the Spirit to Control you, Change you & Guide you. Phil 2:4-5; Gal. 5:16, 22-25; Col. 1:28-29; Gal. 4:19; Rom. 8:29

“My children, I am again suffering labor pains for you until Christ is formed in you.” Galatians 4:19 (CSB)

Capabilities!  Handling Scripture (2 Tim. 2:15); Prayer (Luke 18:1); Sharing your faith (Rom. 10:14); Problems (James 1:2-5; Rom. 8:28). Relational Skills – (1 John 4:7-8; Phil. 2:3-4; Eph. 4:25-32)
•The Key is PROGRESS in your walk not PERFECTION!

3. Willing to be Deployed into the Work !

•We have been taught in order to teach others! 2 Tim. 2:2
•Jesus modeled Lifestyle, Relational Disciple Making!
•Out of our comfort zone and into the harvest!
Matt. 9:36-38

36  When He saw the crowds, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed & dejected, like sheep without  a shepherd. 37  Then He said to his disciples, "The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. 38  Therefore, pray   to the Lord of  the harvest to send          out workers into His harvest."

It has been said that: “Jesus started the church the way He wanted it, now He wants it the way He started it!”
