How are You Doing at Being a Disciple & Making Disciples?

Posted 8/12/2018

Sunday Morning Sermon by Pastor Lee Evans

How are You Doing at Being a Disciple & Making Disciples?

2 Tim. 2:1-2/Matt 28:19-20
2 Timothy 2:1-2 (CSB)

1  You, therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2  What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

•Matthew 28:19-20 (CSB)

19  Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20  teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

We Need to Measure our Progress when we think of  our Disciple Making
As Disciples & Disciple Makers  we Need to Measure our Progress…

Paul knew about self examination…

“Let a person examine himself…” 1 Cor. 11:28

“Not that I have already reached the goal or am already perfect…” Phil. 3:12

So Today, let’s ask God’s Spirit to help us honestly evaluate ourselves…

1) Are you Engaging?People

Matt. 4:18-19; John 1:35ff; Matt. 5:13-16

•Jesus engaged people  where they were… He spoke to people… they also sought Him…

•Jesus exposed people to God and caused them to ask questions & think about the things of God…

Do You Know, Do You Engage with People that don’t Know Jesus?

2) Are you Connected? -Community
•Disciples of Jesus are connected to GOD, through faith in Jesus
•Disciple Makers are connected to a Local church Community! (Heb. 10:25)
•Disciple makers seek to connect others to the Local church (Baptism; Fellowship; Teaching; Prayer; Service; etc.)
•See: Acts 2:44-47
3) Are you Growing? – Knowing AND Obeying
•“…teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you..."   Matt. 28:20 .
• "If you love me, you will keep my commands.   John 14:15
•“For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.”   Jam. 2:26
4) Are you Giving? – Investing in Others

3  I can testify that, according to their ability and even beyond their ability, of their own accord, 4  they begged us earnestly for the privilege of sharing in the ministry to the saints, 5  & not just as we had hoped. Instead, they gave themselves first to the Lord & then to us by God's will. 2 Cor.  8:3-5

42  They devoted themselves to the apostles‘ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer... 44  Now all the believers were together & held all things in common.  45  They sold their possessions and property & distributed the proceeds to all, as any had need46  Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple, & broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with joyful & sincere hearts, 47  praising God & enjoying the favor of all the people. Every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. Acts 2:42-47

Will You Examine Yourself?

•Are you His Disciple?
•How Are you doing as a Disciple Maker?
•Are you  Engaged  w/ People?
•Are you Connected?
•Are you Growing?
•Are you Giving of yourself & Investing in OTHERS?
