Overcoming Deception Part 4

Posted 10/28/2018

Sunday Morning Sermon by Pastor Lee Evans

Overcoming Deception Pt. 4

 Ephesians 6:10-12

10  Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength. 11  Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil. 12  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens.

 James 3:13-18

13  Who among you is wise and understanding? By his good conduct he should show that his works are done in the gentleness that comes from wisdom. 14  But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, don't boast and deny the truth. 15  Such wisdom does not come down from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16  For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there is disorder and every evil practice. 17  But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without pretense. 18  And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who cultivate peace.

  • There appear to be Many personalities, conflicting ideologies, worldviews, opinions, viewpoints & or “wisdoms” at work in our world.
  • In Reality there are only Two.  There is: God & Satan; There is wisdom from Above (from God) & that which is “earthly, unspiritual, Demonic …” (James 3:15; 1 Cor. 2:6-13).

 1. How Does the Deceiver Deceive?

  • Supernatural – 2 Cor. 11:14-15; Gal. 1:8; Rev. 13:13,14; 2 Thes. 2:9-10
  • People - Matt. 24:5,11; Rom. 16:18; 1 John 2:26
In the church; out of the church; even family & friends…
  • Self –1 Cor.  6:9; 15:33; I John 1:8; James 1:22; “the flesh” Needs; “the eyes,” Wants; “the pride” in THINGS! I, Me, & Mine are put above God!  1 John 2:15-16
Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks he is wise in this age…1 Cor. 3:18
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16  For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride in one's possessions—is not from the Father, but is from the world.
    1 John 2:15-16
  • Lack of Discipline – Phil. 3:12-14; Heb. 12:1-2
Instead, I discipline my body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified. 1 Cor. 9:27
  • Our mind; feelings & emotions. 2 Cor. 10:5; Phil.  4:6-8; 2 Tim. 1:7; Josh. 1:6-9; Jer. 20:7; 1:19
But I fear that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may be seduced from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 2 Cor. 11:3
  • Busyness – Mark 1:43 – 2:2
  • Human  Philosophy – 1 Cor. 2:8-15; Acts 17:22-26
Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy & empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elements of the world, rather than Christ. Col. 2:8

2. Help for Overcoming Deception…

  • A Relationship with Jesus - Rom. 5:17; 1 John 4:4
  • Surrender to Jesus – Rom. 6:11-14; James 4:7
  • Love for the Truth - 2 Thes. 2:10; John 8:32; Eph. 6:10-18
  • Obeying the Truth – James 1:22

•This morning we seek to Clarify the confusion and Call you to examine what/who is influencing you so that you can Choose this day whom you will serve?

All of us are living by, for & under the rule of one or the other. What or Who is controlling you?
