2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

Philippians 4:6 (NLT)

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

Philippians 4:7 (NLT)

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Reboot: Finding Your Reason to Live

Acts 7:48-60

48  but the Most High does not dwell in sanctuaries made with hands, as the prophet says:

49  Heaven is my throne, and the earth my footstool. What sort of house will you build for me says the Lord, or what will be my resting place?

50  Did not my hand make all these things?

51  "You stiff-necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are always resisting the Holy Spirit. As your ancestors did, you do also. 52  Which of the prophets did your ancestors not persecute? They even killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become. 53  You received the law under the direction of angels and yet have not kept it."

54  When they heard these things, they were enraged and gnashed their teeth at him. 55  Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven. He saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56  He said, "Look, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!?" 57  They yelled at the top of their voices, covered their ears, and together rushed against him.

58  They dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. And the witnesses laid their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. 59  While they were stoning Stephen, he called out: "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!?" 60  He knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them!?" And after saying this, he died.

1. Stephen had a Reason to Live…

  • He had a Big God – 7:49/Isa. 66:1-2

“The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD—his throne is in heaven. His eyes watch;  his gaze examines everyone”   Ps. 11:4

  • He had a Creator… Acts 7:49-50

“The heavens declare the glory of God & the expanse       proclaims the work of His hands…” Ps. 19:1

  •   Who had been at work in History, 7:2-50
  •   Who sent His Deliverer - “the Righteous One”

  v. 52, Jesus

2. This Gave Him Courage for living, Acts 7

  • He was not Fearful, he was faithful, vv. 2-54

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment. 2 Timothy 1:7

  • He was not full of Anger, he was full of the Spirit! v. 55
  • He was ready to Live but willing to Die, v. 59

3. This Gave Him Comfort in Dying, 7:55, 59,60

  • He had eyes to see Jesus, not the mob,

”Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven. He saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.”  Acts 7:55

  • He was going to be with Jesus (2 Cor. 5:8, Phil. 1:21)
  • He prayed for the forgiveness for his persecutors.  Acts 7:60

4. You have a Decision to Make

  • You can be stiff-necked, hard-hearted & resist the Holy Spirit (John 6:44; 16:8-9).
  • You can get MAD, but that does NOT change the truth, v. 54, 57
  • You are dying.  Rom. 6:23; Heb. 9:27

   You have an expiration date!

  • Heaven & Hell are Real places! John 14:1-2; Luke 16:19-31; Rev. 20:11-15; Rev. 21-22
  • What you do WITH Jesus now determines where you spend eternity AND how you will Live!
